A SLOW SOLACE: THE DESERT SERIES
This series questions boundaries and bonds. By disturbing boundaries and highlighting the environment, connection is emphasized. Through the process of etching the figure into the environment, the form is both revealed and obscured, as though receding into the earth through an act of erasure and fracture. This tactile variance evokes sensory recollections both during the work’s creation and for the viewer, drawing consciousness to the figure’s relationship with its environment.
Our relationship with our bodies and mortality with respect to time and the natural world is examined in these works. The dissolution, or loss, of the figure within its surroundings displaces the boundaries between form and space, allowing the environment to emerge as an ever-present, shaping force.
